It’s almost the end of the year and were about to enter a new decade. So let’s pay homage to the women who we feel are not only inspirational to us all but also made a valuable impression in 2009.
MICHELLE OBAMA

Without question Michelle Obama is the first lady that intends to show the whole world that being a president’s wife does not mean you have to sit at home. A captivating first lady who is loved by the worlds media, Michelle truly feels she has as much responsibility as a role model as her husband. Regularly inviting children to the Whitehouse and being involved in numerous good cause campaigns, including a secret appearance to an all Girls school on London, Michelle is an inspirational to all who meet her, and she portrays her role so elegantly. It’s no surprise that she is regularly referred as the real leader of that fairy tale family.

TAMARA MELLON

The world were given a real treat this year when Tamara Mellon the founder of the famous celebrity shoe company Jimmy Choo made her designer shoes accessible to the UK at H&M. These high end glitzy shoes are more renown for being favourites of celebrities, and have a price tag to match, but the ace team behind the beautiful Jimmy Choos decided it was time we all got to own a pair of these gorgeous works of art. Then the stampede commenced at H&M as Tamara Mellon’s creations were sold out almost as quick as they arrived. We salute her and the company for making these beautiful shoes available to everyone.

KATE WINSLET

The girl done well. Kate Winslet showed our US partners that acting is truly her expertise and when she’s in a film, you can bet that she will give it the performance of her life. This proved to be the case for Kate as she scooped the award for best actress at the Oscars 2009 for the film 'The Reader'. She always looks effortlessly elegant and just seems to look better with age. We're certain this is not her last award and look forward to seeing her in 2010.

SARAH JESSICA PARKER

This year SJP proved that she was more than just a style icon. Sarah and her husband Matthew Broderick decided they wanted to expand their family. Without previous success they turned to a surrogate mother and now have two beautiful children. This is a real testament that if you want something it can be done no matter what your age and bringing in new children into a safe and happy environment can be achieved no matter what the barriers. With a new sex and the city film and with a new chick flick just released starring Hugh Grant, its not going to be easy for Sarah to juggle her work and private life in the coming months and we wish her well.

DEMI MOORE

She is so youthful for her age and we’re not talking about her looks. Demi proved to all women of a certain age that you can easily involve yourself in the modern world and interact with all ages. How did she do it? She regularly broadcasts her life’s ups and downs on the website twitter. For those of you who don’t know, twitter allows you to tell followers of your life what you’re up to at any moment in time and with the help of her hubby, she is now one of the most followed people on the website. Her tongue and cheek broadcast which include pictures of herself, support for Britain’s Got Talents Susan Boyle and her regular ageing woes have been applauded by media circles throughout the world. Age is nothing but a number and youth is more than just visual, as Demi Moore has proved this year.

DANNI MINOGUE

By far the best female judge and with her ever changing hairstyles Danni Minogue has shown her true value as a glamorous judge on Xfactor. Her relentless support for her acts always inspires them to perform to their best and we love to hear what she has to say. It’s a shame there are rumours that she may not be involved in future episodes but we congratulate Danni Minogue for entertaining us Brits and showing us that that she is more than just a famous pop star.

SIGOURNEY WEAVER

She has just turned 60 and proves to women everywhere that power action roles are not just for the younger new wave of actresses. Sigourney Weaver has just starred in the movie of the century plays a feisty female scientist who guides her rookies into a new world, in the blockbuster movie Avatar. Director James Cameron wanted Sigourney for the role and she just looks so dominant and in control of the role. Refusing to have botox or any kind of surgery for the role, Sigourney showed the world ageing gracefully is naturally beautiful. It is now rumoured that movie producers and directors are following suit and looking to cast more experienced women as they captivate the audiences. This is a real inspiration to all women who seen to think that reaching a certain age means you no longer have a place in the system. Acting like any profession has been tarnished with claims of ageism but the lesson here is that when give the chance you should grab it with both hands and prove that you are a good candidate, regardless of age.
